Managing templates for DB2

You can define custom variables in the DB2 response file templates so that you can change the response file without editing it manually each time you create a DB2 instance. For example, if you define a Create DB2 Instance template that defines the NUMBER_OF_PARTITIONS custom variable, you can add the <GAC_NUMBER_OF_PARTITIONS> string into either response file portion of the template. BMC Database Automation will make the appropriate substitution.

Creating a custom variable enables you to collect values that are not collected by default in the Create DB2 Instance wizard. These values will be reflected in the response files during the installation.

About the standard variables in templates for DB2

The following table lists the standard variables that can be used to populate fields in the associated provisioning wizard.

The following rules apply for standard variables:

  • All tags can be used for any of the elements defined after the first page.
  • Except for {DB_UNIQUE_NAME}, all tags must be in either the editable or non_editable section of the template.
