Updating the Agents
As part of the service pack or patch installation process, you may need to update the Agents in your environment.
Updating the Agent software requires that the gunzip utility be installed in the following location:
- (IBM AIX) /usr/bin/gunzip
- (HP-UX) /usr/contrib/bin/gunzip
- (Oracle Solaris) /usr/bin/gunzip
To update the Agents
- Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
- At the login prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
- On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, agree to the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
- If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages and platforms you want to see, per the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
- Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose, and select the Product Patches tab.
- Expand BMC Database Automation to show its versions, then expand the item for the associated version number to show the available service packs or patches for your desired platform and language to show its downloadable files.
- Click Click here to view available product files.
- Select the check boxes next to the Agent files you want to download.
- Click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:
- Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials and FTP instructions are sent to you in an e-mail message.
- Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively, and to resume an interrupted download if the connection drops.
Copy the new agents to the /app/clarity/var/agentupdates/ directory on the Manager server.
This might require root access, depending on the configuration of your Manager.- Open a Management Console session.
- In the Context Frame, identify the legacy Agents associated with your Manager.
Legacy Agents are indicated by an exclamation mark icon in the Grid view: - Select a legacy Agent, and click Update Version.
- Complete the wizard for the Agent by selecting the defaults to start the update, and click OK when asked if you wish to continue.
A progress bar indicates the status of the update job. - Repeat steps 13 and 14 on all legacy Agents that report to the Manager.
- If your environment has a Multi-Manager configuration, repeat steps 13 through 15 for the other Managers.
