Creating a clustered SQL Server instance

The following topics describe how to create a clustered Microsoft SQL Server instance.

Note

Although BMC Database Automation can be used to create or remove clustered SQL Server instances, it is not used to manage the underlying Microsoft cluster. Creation of Microsoft clusters, as well as management of the cluster (such as adding and removing nodes) is outside the scope of BMC Database Automation.

The following restriction applies to the creation of a clustered SQL Server instance:

  • Mixing 32-bit and 64-bit SQL Server instances on the same node or cluster is not supported.
Warning

Note

SQL Server 2000 on Windows 2003 requires Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack (SP3) or later, however, BMC Database Automation only supports the application of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or later. You can apply a service pack as part of the create operation by modifying your template as described in Applying-patches-inline-during-provisioning.

After you complete configuration and BMC Database Automation begins to create the SQL Server clustered instance, the process occurs in the order listed:

  1. Upload media
  2. Run pre-provisioning scripts
  3. Create SQL Server instance
  4. Run post-provisioning scripts
  5. Apply patches
  6. Run final script

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
