Adding a node to an Oracle cluster

This topic describes how to expand an existing Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC) that was provisioned by using BMC Database Automation.

Before you begin

• A running Oracle Cluster Ready Services (CRS) cluster currently managed by BMC Database Automation is available.
• An node is available in the parent domain of the cluster for this operation. The node must meet all of the Oracle CRS prerequisites.

To add a node to an Oracle RAC cluster

1. From the Management Console, navigate to the cluster in which you want to add a node.

2. Select Provision > Add Node. 

   Note

   If you receive a message that states, The Node is Currently Mutating, the node is currently busy with other processes. Wait until the node is free and try again.

3. In the Add Node configuration page, provision the following fields, and click Next.The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
   
4. If the Custom Fields page appears, enter the password, and click Next.
    The Custom Fields page appears only when custom fields are defined in the BMC Database Automation XML template used for this provisioning activity. See Adding custom fields to a template.

5. In the DBMS Home information page, review the information, and click Next. 

   Note

   The DBMS Home Information page does not appear for Oracle 11gR2.

6. In the Available Nodes page, provision the following fields, and click Next. 

   Note

   The fields that appear vary depending on the version of Oracle installed on the node. Differences are noted in the table.

   Note

   BMC Database Automation re-uses the path entered for the ASM BDump, CDump, and UDump paths in the Create an Oracle Cluster for RAC Databases provisioning steps for this provisioning process.

7. In the Custom Scripts Configuration page, select any pre-provisioning or post-provisioning scripts that you want to run as follows, and click Next.The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
   
8. In the Job Options page, specify any of the following Job options, and click Next.The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
   
9. In the Change Control page, provision the following fields, and click Next.The [confluence_table-plus] macro is a standalone macro and it cannot be used inline.
   
10. In the Summary page, review the provisioning information.
     To make changes, do the following:
    1. Click Go to to return to the provisioning step that you want to edit.
    2. Make your changes.
    3. Click Save and Review to return to the Summary page.
11. Specify your verification preferences.
     For additional information, see Understanding pre-verification tests.
    • To continue with database creation after the pre-verification tests have been successfully run without manual intervention, select Automatically Continue If All Tests Succeed.

    • To create the database without having first run the pre-verification steps, select Skip Pre-Verification Tests. 

      Note

      The Skip Pre-Verification Tests option should only be used when you are certain all tests can succeed. The option skips verification and advances directly to the actual provisioning activity.

12. Click Add Node to Cluster.
     A progress page appears.
