Managing license compliance

The license compliance function enables you to reconcile databases managed by BMC Database Automation against a license quota you define. Any license gaps are then easily identified.

The compliance function is supported for the following license types:

  • Oracle licensing including Enterprise options
  • SQL Server 2000/2005 licensing

Licenses can be managed and compared at the Grid, domain, and subdomain levels. The number of licenses BMC Database Automation compares against is entered by using the License tab within the Grid, domain or subdomain levels. The license compliance calculation is based on the quota entered and the number of active databases in the selected domain and any subdomains.

  • Grid: License quotas entered at the Grid level are compared against active databases in all of the domains and subdomains in the Grid.
  • Domain: License quotas entered within a particular domain are compared against active databases in the domain as well as any subdomains.
Warning

Note

Quotas apply to the selected domain and all of its subdomains. However, quotas are not cumulative. That is, the quotas assigned to subdomains are not taken into account when calculating a given domain's compliance.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
