Overview of SQL Server databases
With Microsoft SQL Server, database provisioning tasks are conceptually similar to Oracle. However, there is one key difference. In SQL Server provisioning, an instance of SQL Server is created first and one or more databases can be added to that instance. In contrast, with Oracle, a database is created first and additional instances are then added to that database.
