Creating an instance of SQL Server
This section describes how to create an instance of Microsoft SQL Server on an existing node.
High-level process
After you complete configuration and BMC Database Automation (BDA) begins to create the SQL Server instance, the following process occurs:
- Upload media.
- Run pre-provisioning scripts.
- Create an SQL Server instance.
- Run the post-provisioning scripts.
- Apply patches.
- Run the final script.
Before you begin
- SQL Server media has been installed on the Manager by using the provided tool. This enables the Manager to automatically download the media to all servers as required when performing the creation of SQL Server instances. See Setting-up-SQL-Server-media.
- The node on which the SQL Server instances will run must meet all of the SQL Server prerequisites.
- If the host is a member of a Windows cluster, credentials for a domain administrator account are required.
- Mixing 32-bit and 64-bit SQL Server instances on the same node or cluster is not supported.
To create an instance of SQL Server on a node
- From the Management Console, navigate to the node on which you want to add an instance.
- Select Provision > Add SQL Server Instance.
In the Naming page, populate the following fields, and click Next.
Complete the remaining pages in the wizard.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
