Applying patches inline during provisioning

BMC Database Automation allows you to apply a database patch during the database provisioning activity. This process is called inline patching. Inline patching is supported for both single instance home as well as grid infrastructure home.

To apply inline patches

  1. Upload the patches into the Patch Repository.

    See Creating-a-patch-package for patch package creation instructions.
  2. Using the XML template for the provisioning activity to be performed, add the following tags and patch information in either the <non_editable> or <hidden> section of the template:

    Package Name:
    <inline_patches>
    <name>/domain/patch_name_a</name>
    <name>/domain/patch_name_b</name>
    <name>/domain/subdomain/patch_name_c</name>
    </inline_patches>

    Package ID:
    <dbms_pkgs>
    <pkg>12</pkg>
    <pkg>14</pkg>
    <pkg>16</pkg>
    </dbms_pkgs>

    You must specify the Patch Repository Fully Qualified Package Name for each package you want to apply inline.

See Managing-templates-for-Oracle-on-Linux-and-UNIX for instructions on working with templates and accessing annotated sample templates for each provisioning activity.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
