Specifying information for generic applications

BMC Database Automation (BDA) supports generic applications on hosts running the agent. This functionality enables discovery and representation of information surrounding applications in the Management Console and supports the ability to run BDA Actions on these entities.

After approval, applications display in the Management Console. For example, tools that are installed as part of an SQL Server instance installation can be approved and viewed within the Management Console.

So that BDA can recognize a generic application, use the following files:

  • app_manifest.xml: Tells the Agent which application modules to load and run.
If you are specifying applications by using the generic_apps.conf file, the GenericAppsConf application module must be listed. For details, see Creating-the-app_manifest-xml-file.
  • generic_apps.conf: Allows users to specify static applications that will report static information in the Management Console. These applications do not report any dynamic information to the Management Console, but are useful in providing targets for custom applications. There is an example of a static application in the generic_apps.conf file. For details, see Adding-applications-to-the-generic-applications-file.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
