Managing the information repository

The topics in this section provide an overview of the BMC Database Automation information repository:

The data warehouse collects and stores information about your database infrastructure and related systems. Agents regularly gather data from the hosts that exist in your environment. This data is initially transferred to the Manager and then sent to the information repository for long-term storage. The information repository is composed of various database objects that together represent the configuration of all of the tracked entities.

Before you begin

The information repository requires the following:

  • An Oracle 10gR2 or 11gR2 database with the following:
    • Flashback Enabled (required for the archival procedure)
    • BMC Database Automation information repository schema installed
  • Oracle Instant Client is installed on the Manager. If needed, see Installing-the-Oracle-Instant-Client.

Note

Known Issue With Oracle Database v10.2.0.3
If you are using Oracle Database version 10.2.0.3 as the data warehouse database, there is a known issue that causes inquiries to the data warehouse database to fail. It is recommended that you implement one of the following solutions:

  • To prevent the replacement of literals as binds, use the following workaround: CURSOR_SHARING = EXACT
  • Or, apply the Oracle patch for bug number 5863277
Refer to Metalink note ID 415637.1 on the Oracle support site for details.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
