Understanding pre-verification tests

Pre-verification tests are a series of tests and checks performed by BMC Database Automation to ensure that a target is configured correctly and meets various requirements for the provisioning activity to be performed. For each provisioning activity, tests can be initiated by selecting the Automatically Continue If All Tests Succeed option or skipped by selecting the Skip Pre-Verification Tests option located at the bottom of the Job Summary page.

Note

The Skip Pre-Verification Tests option should only be used when you are certain all tests can succeed. The option skips verification and advances directly to the actual provisioning activity.

Examples of pre-verification tests include:

If all of the pre-verification tests performed return a Success message, the provisioning operation can be initiated.
For tests that fail, you have the following options:

  • Take corrective action. Fix any problems reported and click Repeat Verification until all tests succeed.
  • Skip tests. If you prefer not to fix the problem, you must add the test names in question to the whitelist section of the template, cancel the job and re-initiate the wizard in question, selecting the updated template. Whitelisted tests are skipped and noted with a warning icon. BMC Database Automation allows you to proceed with provisioning. Test names can be found in the Verification Log.

Note

The Skip Pre-Verification Tests option should only be used when you are certain all tests can succeed. The option skips verification and advances directly to the actual provisioning activity.

The following is an example of the whitelist section of a template.

Example

<hidden>
<!-- Sets field as hidden. Any of the elements in the editable and non-editable section can be moved to this section. -->

<!-- Skip check errors -->
<whitelist>
<!--
Description: List of init verifies that should not be run.
Requirements: Must be in the hidden section.
-->

<!--
<test_name>TEST_NAME_IN_CAPS</test_name>
-->

</whitelist>
</hidden>

The environmental variables for each database type can be found in the following pages.

The environmental variables for Actions can be found in Actions-environment-variables.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
