Managing applications

The application collector is a data-collection feature of MainView SRM Reporting. It provides real-time monitoring, budgeting, and control of DASD space utilization.

The collected application data enables the storage administrator to tie individual data sets to applications and to observe and control how space is being used by department, project, programmer, and so on within the organization. The application collector, in conjunction with the space collector, provides historical space information for applications. For information about additional reports that you can generate by using COBOL report programs, see the Reference-for-MainView-SRM-Reporting.

To access the Application menu, select Application Management from the Administration section of the EZSRM menu. The Application menu (EZSRMSGC) provides Application Management and SRM Administration options. For more information about SRM administration, see the Using-MainView-SRM-products and the Reference-for-MainView-SRM-products.

Appl List

Advances to the APPLTAB view.

The view displays a list of valid applications in the current database.

Data Set Information

Advances to the APPLDSNT view by way of the Application Data Set Information dialog. On the dialog, you specify one or more of the following filter criteria:

  • A data set name
  • A data set name mask
  • Volume serial number

The APPLDSNT view displays a list of all selected data sets and with their associated SG-Control application records.

Groups in Applications

Advances to the APPLGRP view.

This view displays a cross reference of applications and storage groups, pools, or subpools fthat are sharing volumes with space assigned to
both an application and a storage group, pool, or subpool.
