MainView Explorer containers and charts
The following information describes how to create customized charts for some SRM views:
Chart customization for SRM views
MainView Explorer (MVE) can display view data as a chart. Although each SRM view has a default chart defined, the default chart might present more data than you need. For example, if you have many pools and groups, a default chart showing data for all of them might be almost unreadable.
In most instances, the chart for an SRM view shows:
- The resource of the view (x axis)
- The first numeric field in the view (y axis)
However, some views have been distributed with a default chart that displays more metrics other than the first numeric field. For any view, the default chart display can be customized.
The EZExplorer Containers folder stores configurations that display various views and charts from different components in:
- Capacity Planning
- HSM
- SGPerform
- Applications
- Space Utilization
- Data Set Management
- Tape
Some of these configurations graph a metric for a resource over time (a transposed histogram); others graph several metrics for a resource. You can customize these charts so that they display only the data that you need.
Example of a customized chart for historical data
The following example describes how to customize an optimized space utilization chart.
Assume that you have an overcrowded historical view related to storage and pools. You need to graph the data to produce a powerful visual image of storage-usage trends. You can filter out resources or establish thresholds on metrics to optimize the charting results as shown in the following figure.
Example of an optimized space utilization chart
This example shows a container with two charts of the SPPOOL view; the charts provide a quick visual overview of the space utilization in terms of size and utilization percentage for each pool.
