How CSCAN command processing works

CSCAN processing identifies the catalogs that are available from the master catalog.

From each catalog, CSCAN gathers VVDS, alias, and data set statistics and outputs them to a physical sequential data set. From each mounted volume on the system, VVDS and catalog statistics are gathered and output to the same physical sequential data set.

The physical sequential data set is overwritten each time the CSCAN process executes. MainView SRM Reporting reads the physical sequential data set and formats the statistics for viewing from Data Set Management menu hyperlinks.

The CSCAN process requires a license on the MainView SRM Reporting component.

You can also use CSCAN to offload performance statistics that are collected by the Catalog Scan performance facility to the CSCAN output collection data set.
