Automation

The Automation views and reports provide information about automated resources and events, as well as automation activity.

Menu options enable you to browse and edit skeleton JCL members and activate, deactivate, and view the status of automation functions that are defined for your site.

To use the automation views and reports, select Automation from the EZSRM Menu, which advances to the Automation Options view (EZSRMAU).

The following table summarizes the options from which you can choose and the commands and easy menus for each option. Action line commands are an alternative to EZCmd menus; the actions correspond to the options on the menus. No SETSRM keywords exist for these views.

Advances to the AUTOFUNC view.

AUTOFUNC summarizes the solution list in the AUTOSOL displays by function to present solution activity for each function.

Hyperlinks are available to see the solution list for the following:

  • Each function
  • The automation log for the function
  • Jobs that were submitted by the function
  • Data sets that were created by the function

Active Solutions

Advances to the AUTOSOLA view.

This view lists solutions that have had requests issued against them. The solution list in the AUTOSOLA view is filtered by the number of requests field.

Solution List

Advances to the AUTOSOL view.

This view displays activity for each automation solution. An automation solution is a SET statement in an SMRLSTxx member of an automation function. Each row of data corresponds to a SET statement in an SMRLST member. Each row gives statistics about activity that was caused by the solution, as well as information about the keywords that were used in the SET statement. The statistics are only maintained while the Automation component is active. The statistics all have values of 0 when the Automation component is started.

Data Accum Solutions

Advances to the AUTOACCUM view.

This view displays activity for each automation solution that uses the ACT_ACCUM keyword to accumulate data. Each row gives statistics about the activity that was caused by the solution, as well as information about the keywords that were used in the SET statement. The view also lists the number of elements that matched the SET statement and will be acted upon. Line commands can be used to:

  • View the JCL that is to be submitted
  • Submit the JCL, or discard the accumulated elements

The statistics are only maintained while the Automation component is active. The statistics all have values of 0 when the Automation component is started.

Policy Queue

Advances to the POLICYQ view.

This view displays the status of policy intervals and allows you to activate, deactivate, and reset statistics.

Services Queue

Skeleton JCL Members

Advances to the AUTOJCL view.

This view displays a list of members that are located in the data sets in the BBSLIB DD concatenation of the SVOS PROC. This view allows you to browse and edit your skeleton JCL members. It also allows you to test your JCL members. If you issue the BSE (Build Skeleton JCL and Edit) or BSS (Build Skeleton JCL and Submit) against a member, dummy values replace the variables in the JCL statements.

Automation Log

Advances to the LOGRAUTO view.

This view displays a list of log records that were created by the Automation component. The Automation component creates log records under the following conditions:

  • Where an AUTO command is issued
  • When an element is added to a batch job
  • When a batch job is submitted
  • When a batch job ends

AUTO Functions

Advances to the ADFUNC view.

This view displays a subset of MainView SRM functions for the Automation component where you can quickly check function status, check FLST/RLST suffixes, and activate or deactivate the functions without returning to the main menu.

  • C (Change the FLST/RLST suffix and/or the MSG/SMF level)

Event Definitions

Advances to the ADMEMA view.

This view displays the active SMEVNTxx PARMLIB member where you can quickly view, edit, create, and refresh the event definitions without returning to the main menu.

Command Entry

Displays a submenu used to execute the SVOSCMD, SYSCMD, or HSMCMD command. Selecting an option displays a dialog on which you can specify a command to execute. The command is issued to each system within your MainView context. When entering the command it is not
necessary to enter any command character or prefix.

MV Logger Files

Advances to the LOGLIST view.

This view shows information about the log files that have been created by the MainView Logger.

Automation Statistics

Advances to the AUTOSTAT view.

This view displays statistics from the Automation component. These statistics are only maintained while the Automation component is active. The statistics all have values of 0 when the Automation component is started.

Event Statistics

Advance to the EVENTS view.

This view presents real-time event statistics and activity that you can use in conjunction with other metrics as a diagnostic or debugging aid. With this view, you can see when events are being issued. Some of these statistics are also displayed as job log messages when the Automation component is stopped. Only overall counts are displayed; a log of issued events is available. This view also displays the connection status between the Automation component and automated-operations subsystems.

Automated Resources

Advances to the AUTORES view.

This view displays the statistics and status of the resources on which automation is occurring or has occurred. These statistics are maintained while the Automation component is active. The statistics all have values of 0 when the Automation component starts.

The resources that are listed on this view were specified in AUTO commands that were issued to the SVOS Started Task. The Automation Log option on the Automation Menu displays each AUTO command that was received (including the resource specifications) and can be used to see all requests for a given resource.

Note: Automation functions that do not have an associated AUTO command (AUTOHMSG) do not associate their processing with resources. Therefore, that activity is not reflected in this view.

Submitted Jobs

Advances to the AUTOSJOB view.

This view displays a tabular list of jobs that have been submitted by the Automation component. The status field indicates whether the job is active or has ended.

In cases where the Automation component did not recognize a job ending, you can use line commands or an available JOBEND console command to notify the Automation component that a job has ended.

The Automation component tracks the elements that are included in any batch job. If an element matches the same solution in another system for execution, the Automation component does not see the job end.

Tailored JCL Data Sets

Advances to the WBSL view.

This view displays all data sets that were created by the Automation component that contain saved tailored skeleton JCL. This list is generated with all data sets that begin with the value that is specified in the AUTOJ_OINDX SMMSYSxx keyword.

This view does not indicate whether the JCL that is contained in each data set has been submitted. You must manage the submission and deletion of these data sets.

Events

Advances to the EVENTMSG view.

This view displays the events sent to the MainView Logger by MainView SRM.

This view displays the group events sent to the MainView Logger by the Automation component of MainView SRM.
