Detail space database
The space database can contain from 2 through 100 VSAM data sets.
These data sets are created during MainView SRM installation and customization and are specified in the SMDBASxx PARMLIB member. For more information, see Database-data-sets-and-SMDBASxx.
The space database is used to maintain space information over a relatively short time period, whereas the capacity planning database provides longer term reporting. The retention period of either database is a function of the amount of data logged, the frequency at which it is logged, and the amount of DASD available in the database. All of these metrics can be controlled through policy definitions and command scheduling.
The SPDB view lists the data sets that make up the space database and their current status. The views provide statistics that show exactly how much space is used for each record type. This information can show how the database space is being used and help determine the impact of any change made in the logging volume or frequency. Line commands on this view allow you to:
- Add a data set to the database
- Remove a data set from the database
- Change the logging characteristics of the data set
For more information about using the SBDB view, see Database-data-sets-and-SMDBASxx.
