AUTODS function—Data set automation

The AUTODS function is used to initiate automation for a data set in response to any storage condition.

When an entity passes, the AUTODS process collects information for all the data sets on that entity and runs the data sets through the AUTODS FLST/RLST. The AUTODS function is not invoked unless requested. Actions include:

  • Submits a job by using a skeleton tailoring facility to perform a batch process on the data set
  • Issues events to communicate with MainView AutoOPERATOR and trigger MainView AutoOPERATOR to respond to a data set condition

AUTODS solutions are initiated through console commands and can be taken step by step, checking the data set condition at the end of each step.

This function is initiated through user request rather than during some other process or event. The AUTODS console command can be used to initiate data set automation. This console command can be issued by time-driven Rules within MainView AutoOPERATOR or through any mechanism that can issue console commands.
