Issue

IAM 9.4 fixes P-94.0029 and P94.0046 can cause CICS to experience Open failures for real VSAM datasets. These two IAM PTFs were sourced into IAM 10.0.00 and IAM 10.0.01 and therefore, these two IAM releases have the same problem. The first reported symptom was that CICS was not able to open empty VSAM ESDS dataset. However, other unpredictable errors could possibly occur involving real VSAM datasets.  It is possible that symptoms may lead to the IBM support involvement. IBM support might indicate that incorrect return codes are coming from IGWARLS and that would be an indication that this issue is occurring.

Resolution

Fix P-94.0093 resolves the issue for version 9.4.nn levels.

Important

Users having version 10.0.00 or 10.0.01 installed must apply fix P-10.0041 to resolve this issue.

Apply the fix with PGM=AMASPZAP and refresh the link list.

Users of long running address spaces, such as CICS or IAMRLS, or those who need to resolve the issue quickly can apply this fix using one of the following methods:

  • Apply the fix using PGM=IAMZAP as per the instructions in the Fix.
  • After applying the fix to the IAM version (with the highest level of IAM you are running) load library, start a test VIF with the parameters PARM=’TEST,JOBNAME=*’ for this highest level of IAM.

IAM version 10.0.02 already includes the fix for this issue.

For information about how to download the cumulative maintenance that includes these fixes, see Product Downloads.
