IAM Support For IBM GDPS Active–Active Solution

IAM Version 9.3 introduced the capabilities that enable IAM files to be used in the GDPS Active-Active solution for high availability. Specifically, IAM has support to enable the functions necessary to replicate the updated data in real time from the IAM files on the active system to the mirrored IAM file on the remote system. This enables the remote system to quickly move the workload from the active system to the remote system, should a failure occur. CICS-Considerations

IAM product for this function include the following:

  • Support for IDCAMS DEFINE parameters needed for Active-Active support which include LOGREPLICATE and LOGSTREAMID().
  • Support to provide the necessary information via various catalog information retrieval services, including Catalog Services Interface (CSI). This includes support for generic CSI requests issued by the Classic Data Architect. With these changes, CICS will write the necessary journal records for replication, and they will be properly handled by the IBM IIDR/VSAM Data Replication product.
  • Support in the IAM List Catalog information routine to include the new information in the IAMPRINT report.
  • A new journal logging process that meets the requirements for replication. CICS will automatically do the requested replication based on the LOGSTREAM and LOGREPLICATE parameters from the DEFINE. IAM itself will handle the replication logging for all update activity performed outside of CICS control.

With the above IAM product enhancements, IAM files can be used in place of real VSAM files without any known special requirements or considerations. The IAM product has been tested in a laboratory environment with the IBM IIDR/VSAM Data Replication Product, CICS/TS 5.2, z/OS 2.2, and CICS/VR.
