Capacity planning database

The capacity planning database can contain from 2 through 100 VSAM data sets.

These data sets are created during BMC AMI Storage installation and customization and are specified in the SMDBASxx PARMLIB member. For more information, see Database-data-sets-and-SMDBASxx.

The retention period of the data on the database is determined by the total size of the data sets in the database and the amount of information logged. You can adjust the size of the database by adding or removing data sets from the database.

The CAPDB view in the BMC AMI Ops Infrastructure interface lists the data sets that make up the capacity planning database and their current status. The views also provide size and usage information for the data sets in the database. This information can help determine the impact of any change made in the logging volume or frequency. Line commands on this view allow:

  • Add a data set to the database
  • Remove a data set from the database
  • Change the logging characteristics of the data set

For information about using the CAPDB view, see Database-data-sets-and-SMDBASxx.

Detail space data is logged to a BMC AMI Storage capacity planning database. Information must exist on the detail databases to be included in the capacity planning database. You can also control the information logged to the capacity planning database by restricting logging to the detail databases.

The amount of data logged to the database is controlled through policies and the BMC AMI Storage Scheduled Services facility, which is discussed in Controlling-space-collector-resource-usage.
