Usage notes for the HSMBACKP functions

HSMBACKP applies to all data sets that are selected by DFSMShsm for backup during volume backup or automatic backup. It does not apply to data sets that are backed up explicitly, such as with the TSO/ISPF HBACKDS command.

The BACKCMD parameter enables you to bypass function processing for DFSMShsm backups that are initiated by command. HSMBACKP always processes automatically initiated backups, but it may be set to ignore backups that are performed on command. This enables you to perform emergency backups without modifying the normal backup parameters in HSMBACKP.

If BACKCMD=YES is specified, HSMBACKP is activated for both, initiated automatic backups and command.

SET  BACKCMD=YES  BACKUP=NO
INC SYS2.HSM.BACKUP.INC.YESNO
Automatic Backup (Not Backed Up)
HBACKVOL Command (Not Backed Up)

SET  BACKCMD=YES  BACKUP=YES
INC SYS2.HSM.BACKUP.INC.YESYES
Automatic Backup (Backed Up)
HBACKVOL Command (Backed Up)

If BACKCMD=NO, HSMBACKP is activated only for automatic backup processing.

SET  BACKCMD=NO  BACKUP=NO
INC SYS2.HSM.BACKUP.INC.NONO
Automatic Backup (Not Backed Up)
HBACKVOL Command (Backed Up)

SET  BACKCMD=NO  BACKUP=YES
INC SYS2.HSM.BACKUP.INC.NOYES
Automatic Backup (Backed Up)
HBACKVOL Command (Backed Up)
