Subpool overview

Subpools, like pools, are a collection of volumes that are defined and managed with BMC AMI Storage.

Subpools are defined in SET statements within the SMSPOLxx PARMLIB member, rather than the SMPOOLxx member (see Subpool-definitions).

Subpools contain a subset of the volumes in an SMS storage group. Subpools can only contain SMS-managed volumes that belong to the same storage group. Subpools can be used in the Allocation component to allocate space to a subset of the volumes in a storage group. Subpools are used throughout the Reporting and Automation components. Subpools cannot be assigned to a policy; however, you can assign the owning storage group to a policy. After the product is started, the active subpool configuration can be seen in the GPCNFG view within the BMC AMI Storage interface. A link to this view is available through the Configuration menu.
