DPO startup (DASDPOOL)
(BMC.AMISTG.SPE2201)The DASD Performance Optimizer (DPO) collection environment is established in SVOS and SGP during SVOS initialization. However, the DPO_COLLECT parameter determines whether data collection occurs.
The default (DPO_COLLECT is either not specified in SMMSYS, or is set to N) sets the DPO data collection inactive. Within the active SMMSYSxx member, you can control whether the DPO facility collects data:
- DPO_COLLECT=Y activates DPO data collection.
- DPO_COLLECT=N (default) deactivates DPO data collection.
You can turn the data collection on or off by changing the DPO_COLLECT setting and then refreshing the active SMMSYSxx member. After refreshing, it takes a short period of time before DPO collection activates or inactivates. The message SVO4030I DPO COLLECTION ACTIVE/INACTIVE is displayed when processing is complete.
The following functions use DPO related parameters:
- DASDPOOL assigns data sets to pools of DASD volumes.
- SMSSELCT controls the selection of volumes from a storage group for SMS-managed data sets
- FDRASIST works with Fast Dump Restore/Application Backup Recovery (FDR/ABR)
If DPO data collection is deactivated, processing of these functions will ignore any DPO-related parameters that the functions use.
The following BMC AMI Storage views display information related to DPO data collection. If DPO collection is deactivated these views will not contain any data.
