Multiple Volume Report

The Multiple Volume Report displays all data sets that have extents on more than one volume.

See the following sections in this topic for more information:

What you can do with the report

It is often necessary to allocate data sets across multiple volumes (for space or performance reasons). However, multiple-volume support adds overhead, and some of the data sets might not need to be allocated on multiple volumes.

To aid in moving data sets to a single volume, the Multiple Volume Report displays the following:

  • Data set characteristics
  • Data set size for each volume and for the data set as a whole

Organization of the report

The Multiple Volume Report is organized by data set. Within each data set, volumes are listed in order of occurrence in the data set’s allocation.

Usage notes for creating the report

Consider the following information when creating the Multiple Volume Report:

  • Data set selection by volume and pool is supported, but BMC Software does not recommend this method for selection. If a volume is omitted in the selection parameters, any data sets with extents or copies on that volume are not reported. BMC Software recommends using the DSN parameter for data set selection for this report.
  • The DFSMSHSM migration control data set (MCDS) is required if migrated data sets are to be included in the report. If the ddname MCDS is not in the JCL, migrated data sets (ML1 or ML2) are not included. Omitting the MCDS data set has the same effect as specifying EXCLUDE MIGRATED DS=YES.

    Important

The BMC AMI Storage subsystem must be executing to run the Multiple Volume Report.

Available fields on the report

The following fields are available for the Multiple Volume Report:

Column heading

Description

DATASET-NAME

Indicates the name of pool or storage group, volume, and data set by which the report is organized

TYP

Indicates the data set type (M=cataloged; U=uncataloged)

VOLSER

Indicates the volumes on which the data set resides

LRECL

Indicates the record length of the data set

BLKL

Indicates the block size of the data set

RECFM

Indicates the record format of the data set

DSORG

Indicates the organization of the data set

SIZE

Indicates the size of the data set
