Choosing a configuration model

Depending on the configuration scenario that you want install, choose the configuration model and file to use.

Extending the supported protocols for a syslog collector with Datacenter.cnf

Use the Datacenter.cnf configuration file to install SyslogDefender similarly to the scenario in one of the following topics:

This configuration has one output: an IPv4 UDP output directed to localhost, that is, the TCP/IP name of the local machine on which SyslogDefender is installed.

This configuration also has the following listeners:

  • IPv4 TCP/IP
  • IPv4 TLS
  • IPv6 TCP/IP
  • IPv6 TLS
  • IPv6 UDP

The IPv6 listeners are configured, but not enabled.

Warning

Note

If you require IPv6 support, change the required IPv6 listeners from enable=false to enable=true during the configuration process. For more information, see Command-and-syntax-reference.

Establishing a secure pipeline between locations with Remote.cnf

Use the Remote.cnf configuration file to install SyslogDefender similarly to the remote machine in the Establishing-a-secure-pipeline-between-locations configuration scenario.

This configuration has one output: an IPv4 TLS output. You will need to edit the address of this output during the configuration process. Specify the IP address or host name of the corresponding SyslogDefender instance on the data center.

This configuration also has the following listeners:

  • IPv4 TCP/IP
  • IPv4 TLS
  • IPv4 UDP
  • IPv6 TCP/IP
  • IPv6 TLS
  • IPv6 UDP

The IPv6 listeners are configured, but not enabled.

Warning

Note

If you require IPv6 support, change the required IPv6 listeners from enable=false to enable=true during the configuration process. For more information, see Command-and-syntax-reference.
