Creating and sending a syslog message


You can create and send a new syslog message on the search messages tab.

To create and send a syslog message

  1. On the MessagesSearch tab, click Post New Message.
  2. In the Send To Host / IP Destination Address field, enter your destination IP address and port number as  ipAddress :portNumber .
  3. From the Send Syslog Facility list, select a facility.

    Select one of the following facilities:

    • kernel
    • user
    • mail
    • system
    • security
    • internal
    • printer
    • news
    • network
    • lock
    • auth
    • ftp
    • ntp
    • audit
    • alert
    • clock
    • local0
    • local1
    • local2
    • local3
    • local4
    • local5
    • local6
    • local7

    The default is internal.
  4. From the Send Syslog Severity  list, select a severity.

    Select one of the following severities:

    • debug
    • info
    • notice
    • warning
    • error
    • critical
    • alert
    • emergency

    The default is info.
  5. In the Send Syslog Message box, enter the message that you want to send.
  6. (Optional) To specify a host IP address, click Additional Options and in the Send From Host / IP Address field, enter your host IP address.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
