Localizing the BMC Defender Server
This topic describes functions and features that allow the BMC Defender program to be localized in a language other than English. Familiarity with the BMC Defender program is assumed. Before executing any of the procedures here, you should first install the BMC Defender program on a Windows platform, as discussed in Installing.
Advanced localization functions
In addition to the preceding localization functions, BMC Defender includes an advanced localization editor that permits you to modify labels, screen titles, hyperlink values, table headings, and other textual values. This is an optional step that can be applied after other localization is complete.
- Click on the System > Parameters screen, and then click Edit. This edits the System Parameters screen.
- Modify the value of Enable Localization Editor to be Enabled, and click Save to save the setting. This causes a hyperlink with the value —Run Localization Editor— to appear at the bottom of each screen.
- On each BMC Defender screen, click the —Run Localization Editor— hyperlink. This causes a new window to appear, where the window contains specific text on the currently displayed screen, as shown in the following for the Messages screen:

- Enter text for any fields that are to be localized on the main screen. (You might leave a field blank if it is not to be modified.) Click Save when finished, and close the opened window.
When finished, send the ./config/lstring.cnf file to BMC Support for inclusion with the final build.
Basic tab and button localization
BMC Defender contains a Local screen that allows you to localize tabs, buttons, and selected text elements. This screen is available in all Unicode versions of the product by clicking the System > Local tab.
If you do not have a System > Local tab in your installed version of BMC Defender then you are not running a Unicode version of the program. In this case, contact BMC Support for the correct version of the program.
- Install the Unicode Version of BMC Defender, and log into the web interface.
- Click System > Local. This displays a series of tabs, depicted as follows.
- Fill out all the text elements of all input fields for Tabs, Buttons, Text, and Dash elements.

- When finished, send the ./config/local.cnf file to BMC Support for inclusion with the final build.
Configuration file check list
When the preceding procedures are completed, the following three files should be sent to BMC Support for inclusion in the final build.
This file contains the information associated with buttons, tabs, and text elements, from the first procedure of this document.
This file contains the thread titles from the second procedure of this section.
This file contains the other advanced localization text from the third procedure of this document.
All preceding files are text files and can be viewed in Windows Notepad or other text editors. You should take care while making any modifications to these files except while modifying through the editors explained in this document.
Localization of thread titles
As part of the localization process, the user should localize the titles of all the threads in the Correlation > Threads screen. This consists of drilling down to each thread (through Edit) and substituting a localized title for the existing thread title. Only the thread title should be replaced, and the other parameters should not be changed.
When finished, you should send the ./config/threads.cnf file to BMC Support for inclusion with the final build.
