Using BMC Defender SNMP Monitor adapter

After installation, you only need to set the device groups and read community values before you start using the BMC Defender SNMP Monitor adapter.

The user might add SNMP Monitors in addition to the pre-configured monitors that come with the system. This requires a moderate understanding of SNMP and might require investigation of the SNMP capabilities of your enterprise, such as what SNMP agents are available, how they are configured, and what types of monitoring provides the most visibility without loading BMC Defender down with useless message information.

BMC Defender provides a MIB Browser utility (see SNMP-MIB-browser) that can facilitate the setup of SNMP monitors by exploring what managed devices on the system actually support SNMP MIB objects.

This section provides a description of these optional software elements, and their usage.
