End-to-end deployment process overview


We recommend that you follow these high-level processes for deploying the BMC AMI Resident Security Server (RSS) component and the BMC AMI Security Policy Manager product.

Review the end-to-end milestones for implementing the component and products in your environment. For a description of the required roles and permissions, see Roles-and-permissions.

Plan and design

  • Evaluate system requirements.
  • Plan user permissions, privileges, and system access and authentication. Identify who will administer the system and the user roles.
  • Make sure that you have network connections and permissions for FTP or IND$FILE transfer.

Downloading and preparing files for installation

System programmer

  • Download the RSS base version (if you don't already have it) and the latest SPE to your PC.

    Important

    RSS provides the core components for BMC AMI Security RSS-based products that you must install before you install the product.

    Record the high-level qualifier you use for the RSS runtime and installation SMP/E data sets. You must use the same high-level qualifier when you run the supplied INSTALL procedure for the product.

  • Download the product base version (if you don't already have it) and the latest SPE to your PC.
  • On the mainframe, preallocate data sets to receive the XMIT files from your PC.
  • On the mainframe, run the RECEIVE command to transmit the XMIT files to the data sets.

Installing and configuring the component and products

  • Install the RSS component, SPEs, and patches.
  • Install the product, SPEs, and patches.
  • Configure the component and product.
