Creating the BMC license data set

Before you can use one or more products from the BMC AMI Resident Security Server product suite, you must create and configure a BMC license data set.

With the batch interface for product authorization, you can do the following tasks:

  • Process (add, delete, and modify) passwords for a single product
  • Process passwords for multiple products at one time
  • Obtain current product authorization and processor information

After you create the license data set, use it in the product JCL procedure that you are licensed to use.

Before you begin

Obtain a product license key by opening a support case at BMC Support.

With the key, you receive an email message with a template JCL to build the key in the BMC password data set.

To create a BMC license data set

  1. From the hlq.RSSSAMP data set, locate the template SEC3UPDT JCL member.
  2. Follow the instructions in the JCL comments to customize the JCL.
  3. Insert one or more password control statements for the indicated product or products.
  4. Substitute the data set names from the licensing email message as follows:

    //STEPLIB  DD DSN=BMC.PRODUCT.LOAD,DISP=SHR    <=== BLFSEC3B LOADLIB    00820008
    //*                                                                     00830000
    //SYSLIB   DD DSN=<HILEVEL>.BMCPSWD,DISP=SHR   <=== PASSWORD LIBRARY    00840000
  5. Save the JCL and submit the job.
