Commands

BMC AMI Resident Security Server provides commands that authorized users can issue from the IBM MVS console by using the MVS Modify command. For example, to set the message level to trace RACF commands and responses, you can use the following command:

F RSS,SETMSG RACFTRACE

Commands are available to control the Audit Log, the message level, and to shut down RSS.

The following commands are supported by RSS:

Command

Description

RESETMSG messageLevel

Resets a previously set message level

The message level parameter settings are the same as for SETMSG.

SETMSG messageLevel

Sets a new message level

Under normal running, the message level parameter in the configuration data set usually sets Info and Error so that only information and error messages are written to SYSOUT.

If you experience issues with RSS, you might need to switch on and off one or more of the tracing message levels. You can do this dynamically with this command and the RESETMSG (and avoids having to recycle the product).

The following message levels are available:

AppTrace	Turns on application specific tracing
BufTrace	Traces data in all traced exchanges as well as protocol information
DATATrace	Traces detailed data buffers during communication Use this trace with caution because sensitive data might be reported.
DLLTrace	Traces DLL Calls
DSTrace	Traces data space activity
Error	Output error messages
HTTPTrace	Traces HTTP traffic generated by user interactions with the RSS browser interface
Info	Output information messages
JSONTrace	Traces JSON streams over the REST API
MUTEXTrace	Traces mutex operations
RACFTrace	Traces all RACF commands and their output responses
REXXTrace	Traces REXX activity and allows the called REXX execs to write additional trace data
SQLTrace	Traces application SQL calls
TCPTrace	Traces all TCP communications including SSL exchanges when using HTTPS protocol
XCFTrace	Traces data sent and received across XCF communications

SHUTDOWN

Performs a controlled shutdown of RSS

This can also be done using the standard MVS 'P RSS' command.

No confirmation of either command is required. The RSS address space closes as soon as RSS has cleanly terminated any active or waiting tasks.

SERVERS

Lists the active RSS Servers and their status

APPS

Lists the active RSS applications running in this RSS Server and connected to this RSS Server

CSA

Displays details of the CSA block used by RSS

HASH

Displays statistics on the RSS hash table

SESS

Displays active RSS sessions

TSO

Displays active RSS TSO address space details

CHKPT

Displays checkpoint data set statistics

Displays details of the master dataspace
