Restarting BMC AMI Defender for z/OS after an unrecoverable failure

BMC AMI Defender generally shuts down in an orderly fashion after failures, including abends. However, If BMC AMI Defender fails to end properly, you might receive the following message when you try to restart the product:

CZA0229C zDefender for z/OS appears to already be running as Instance n.

If you receive this issue, restart BMC AMI Defender using INSTALL=FORCE parameter. For more information, see START-command.

Warning

Before using the INSTALL=FORCE parameter, ensure that BMC AMI Defender is not still running.

Do not alter the OPTIONS SUBSYS parameter between a non-orderly shutdown of BMC AMI Defender and a restart using the INSTALL=FORCE parameter.

To alter the SUBSYS parameter after an unexpected failure:

  1. Run CZAGENT INSTALL=FORCE.
  2. Shut down the product using the STOP command.
  3. Alter OPTIONS SUBSYS.
