Installing BMC Defender Server
This topic provides a quick guide to install the BMC Defender Server system on a Microsoft Windows platform. For more detailed instructions, see other topics in the Installing section.
Before you begin
Before you install the BMC Defender Server, ensure the following:
- To ensure proper installation of the program, close all windows and disable any port blocking or virus scan software on the system. During the installation process, detected errors stop progress of the installation and an error dialog indicates the cause of failure.
Ensure that your system has the installation requirements for BMC Defender Server, including the antivirus considerations.
- Ensure that your required and optional default service ports are available.
To install the BMC Defender Server
- Obtain the signed BMC Defender installation package, in self-extracting ZIP format. This file is named BMC-AMI-Command-Center-for-Security-n.n.nn.nnnn.exe.
You obtain the product installation files by downloading them from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) website. Your ability to access product pages on the EPD website is determined by the license entitlements purchased by your company. - Log on to the target Windows platform with an administrator type login.
Execute the self-extracting ZIP file and extract files to the target directory. By default, the directory is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC Defender\.
When the self-extracting ZIP file completes extraction, the BMC Defender Server setup wizard automatically starts.
- Follow the wizard prompts. You can usually use all defaults during the installation. When the installation dialog finishes, the CO-syslog.exe and program is running on the platform, awaiting messages.
No other steps are needed to install the program. BMC Defender does not require you to reboot the server after installation.
