Installing BMC Defender Agent for Windows
The BMC Defender Agent for Windows is a standard part of the BMC Defender Server package. You can install it on any Microsoft Windows platform to add syslog capability to that system. The program uses minimal CPU and disk space. No special authorization file is required.
Before you begin
If the platform is running port blocking or virus scan software, disable that software before you start the installation.
To install the BMC Defender Agent for Windows
- Log on to the Windows platform where you will install the BMC Defender Agent for Windows software with Administrator privileges.
This is called the target platform. - On the target platform, open a web browser, and log on to the BMC Defender Server web interface.
- On the Home page, click the Download BMC Defender Agent for Windows link to download the software.
- Execute the program to start the ZIP self extraction. If you are using Windows Explorer or a compatible browser, click Open to execute the program.
Extract files to a location of your choice. The default location is C:\Program Files\BMC Software\BMC Defender. - After extracting the files, the installation wizard automatically starts. Review and accept the license agreement.
- Enter the host name or IP address of the computer that receives syslog messages, such as the BMC Defender Server.
- Run the wizard to completion. After the wizard finishes, the BMC Defender System Message Service, CO-sysmsg.exe, starts.
On startup, this process sends a single syslog message to the configured destination host. Check the host to verify that a message was correctly sent and received. You do not need to reboot the platform.
