Subsetting data

Visualizer provides tools for building complex and comprehensive databases for measurement and summary data. Sometimes you need subsets of existing data sources, tailored to the needs of individual departments, special reports, or ad hoc requests.

Use the Subset Data option of Automator to copy portions of existing databases to new databases that highlight certain information. You can use component values, data source type, and time as the criteria for the new database. For example, you can combine measurement and summary data into one database. You can create a subset database that contains only system and workload values.

There are two ways to subset a database:

  • Select Database > Automator > Subset to run the event interactively.
  • As part of an Automator script, run a Subset event.

Automator displays a log as it subsets the data. The log also displays the time the event completes and any warnings and errors that occur during the subset event.

Note

Use the same dialog box to add or modify a subset event. The dialog box title depends upon how you access it.
