Creating a new Microsoft Access database using the Data Source Selection - ODBC dialog box
BMC Software distributes sample databases in Microsoft Access format. Once you select a sample database, you can view and manipulate Visualizer graphs instantly. The following procedure describes how to create an Access data source into which you can populate Visualizer databases:
- Select Database > Select.
The Data Source Selection: ODBC dialog box is displayed. - Click DSN.
The Select Data Source dialog box box is displayed. - Select New.
The Create New Data Source wizard is displayed. Select System Data Source and Next to display the list of installed ODBC drivers.
- Select the driver you want and click Next or double-click the driver.
- Click Finish.
The ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box is displayed. - Enter the name for the new data source and click Create.
The New Database dialog box is displayed. - Enter the name for the new database, select a location for it, and click OK.
Access confirms that the new database was successfully created. - Click OK to return to the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box.
- Click OK to return to the Select Data Source dialog box.
The data source now appears in the list of available data sources. - Click OK to open the Login dialog box.
- Click OK to return to the Data Source Selection: ODBC dialog box.
The Data Source Selection dialog box contains details about the new database such as server name, server version number, driver name, driver version number that appear on the left side of the dialog box. You have created a database into which you can populate Visualizer data sources. The Available Data Sources box will be empty until you populate data into Visualizer databases. - Click Cancel to exit to Visualizer or initiate an Automator session.
