Configuring a DSN for an Access database
To configure a data source name (DSN) for Access:
- Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click Administrative Tools.
- Double-click Data Sources (ODBC).
- Click System DSN.
- Click Add to display a list of installed ODBC drivers.
- Select the Microsoft Access Driver (.mdb) and click *Finish to open the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box.

This is a local access database for marketing.
- Click Select in the Database section of the dialog box to identify the specific instance of a data source, if you have already created a Visualizer database. Enter the proper directory location of the MS Access database file. For example,
D:\dbfiles \access \visual.mdb
If you want Access security, follow Step 10 through Step 12. - Specify a database in the System Database section of the dialog box.
- If you want to specify a userid and password, click Advanced and enter the login name and password, and then click OK.
- Click OK to return to the Data Source Administration dialog box where you can view driver specifics and available data sources.
- Set the permissions for the database. You must do this before the database is accessed from Visualizer, or before any summary redirection is done.
To set permissions for the database:- Open the database in Access and choose Tools > Options.
- On the View tab, select System Objects and click OK.
- Select Tools > Security > User and Group Permissions.
- In the Object Name: box , select MSysObjects.
- In the User/Group: box, select User/Group Admin.
- Select all of the boxes, then click OK.
- Close the database.
