Accessing the sample Microsoft Access databases
Before you can graph Visualizer data, you must populate data into a Visualizer database. (For instructions, see Performing-database-maintenance-tasks.)
BMC ships the following sample Microsoft Access databases with Visualizer so you can view the available graphs as soon as you install the product.
- Distributed Systems (bdsdemo.mdb)
- MVS (mvsdemo.mdb)
- VM (vmdemo.mdb)
- AS/400 (as4demo.mdb)
To open a sample Microsoft Access database
- Launch Visualizer.
- Select Database > Select.
The Data Source Selection: ODBC dialog box is displayed. - Click DSN to open the Select Data Source dialog box.
- Make the following selections:
- Click the Machine Data Source tab.
- Click New to open the Create New Data Source dialog box.
- Perform the following steps as they appear in sequence:
- Select System Data Source (applies to this machine only).
- Click Next.
Select Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb).
Click Finish.
- In the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box:
- Type MVSDemo (or the name of one of the other sample databases) in the Data Source Name field.
- (Optional) Enter a description of the MVSDemo sample database.
- Click Select .
- In the Select Database dialog box:
- Select MVSDemo.mdb from the following path:
C:\ Program Files \BMC Software \visualizer \DB - Click OK.
- Select MVSDemo.mdb from the following path:
- In the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box, click OK.
- In the Select Data Source dialog box:
- Select MVSDemo.
- Click OK.
- In the Login dialog box:
- (Optional) Specify Login Name and Password.
- Click OK.
- In the Data Source Selection: ODBC dialog box, MVS Meas/Smry appears in the Available Platforms list. Double-click MVS Meas/Smry to expand it to MVS Measurements and MVS Summary.
- Double-click on one of the two data sources.
- Select Graphics from the Visualizer Main menu to view the available MVS graphs.
