IMS Monitor

The IMS Monitor (formally known as the DC Monitor) is an IBM product that provides IMS transaction information, including CPU usage, number of I/Os, and response time.

You enable the IMS Monitor by issuing the /TRACE command from the IMS Master Terminal. When you activate the Monitor, request that all events be monitored by using the following command:

/TRACE SET ON MONITOR APDB, SCHD

From the IMS Monitor data, UIE processes the following record types:

  • 03 - BMP scheduling end
  • 04 - BMP termination start
  • 07 - IFP scheduling end
  • 08 - IFP termination start
  • 11 - MPP scheduling end
  • 13 - MPP termination start
  • 22 - Database I/O IWAIT started
  • 24 - VSAM I/O IWAIT started
  • 28 - HSAM I/O IWAIT started
  • 56 - MSDB WRITE IWAIT ended
  • 57 - DEDB READ IWAIT ended
  • 62 - DLA started (DB)
  • 64 - DLA started (MSG)
  • 90 - Monitor started
  • 91 - Monitor ended

For more information about IMS Monitor, see the /TRACE MONITOR Command section in the IBM IMS online documentation.

The IMS Monitor data does not contain the z/OS system ID or the IMS subsystem ID. To ensure that UIE correctly associates IMS Monitor data with the correct system and subsystem, you must specify an APPLCONTROL command and include the z/OS system ID, IMS subsystem ID, and the DDname that you will use in the UIE JCL for the particular IMS Monitor data set. For more about the APPLCONTROL command, see APPLCONTROL.
