Minimum command set requirements

You can use the intelligent default rules to run Universal Information Exchange out of the box by using a single SDATE command, which specifies the date that you want to process.

Using the command SDATE TODAY- n enables you to run the same job daily.


In this example, UIE uses some of the following default rules:

  • Process 24 hours of data (0000 to 2400 in local time zone) for a specified date
  • Apply one-hour modeling intervals
  • Process data from all systems found in the input file
  • Eliminate duplicate RMF records

Without providing UIE with any additional information, you can get a detailed description of your enterprise hardware and software and also the work being performed in your data center.

The following table describes the different functions UIE performs depending on the products that you are using:

  • Processes all RMF/SMF data and creates default workloads and suites
  • Processes all available transaction data automatically detecting CICS, IMS, Db2, MQ, and WAS address spaces, and subsystems
  • Aggregates transactions and creates applications according to the default rules for each subsystem
  • Creates XML models that contain modeling objects created from suites and applications
  • Creates a Visualizer file for the same period that contains performance metrics for your z/OS system and subsystems, including workloads, suites and applications

BMC AMI Capacity Reporting

Processes z/OS and subsystem performance metrics to let you create performance analyses and graphs in a variety of formats.

BMC AMI Cost Management

Extracts software costing metrics from your RMF/SMF data and produces costing tables that are written to the Visualizer file

TrueSight Capacity Optimizer for Mainframes

BMC Helix Continuous Optimization for Mainframes

Extracts z/OS system and subsystem metrics from your RMF/SMF and subsystem data and produces performance data tables that are written to the Visualizer file

 Processes only the following records:

  • SMF records 30, 70, 71, 72, and 89
  • Transactional subsystem records
    • 100 and 101 (IBM Db2), or BMC AMI Ops Monitor for Db2
    • 110 (IBM CICS), BMC AMI Ops Monitor for CICS , or ASG Software Solutions ASG-TMON for CICS
    • 115 and 116 (IBM WebSphere MQ)
    • 120 (IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS)
    • BMC AMI Ops Monitor for IMS Offline
