Integrating

Universal Information Exchange is a component of the BMC AMI Capacity Management solution. The BMC AMI Capacity Management solution includes the following main components:

  • Universal Information Exchange (UIE)
  • Visualizer/Capacity Database
  • BMC AMI Capacity Database Web Services (formerly known as BMC CDB)
  • BMC Performance Predictor for Mainframes
  • BMC AMI Capacity Reporting
  • BMC AMI Cost Management
  • BMC BMC Helix Continuous Optimization for Mainframes

For more information, see Getting started section of BMC AMI Capacity Management.

UIE is a software component that runs on your mainframe system to read and process SMF/RMF and subsystem data collected from target IBM z/OS images to produce two types of output—XML data files and Visualizer files.

Visualizer is an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use tool for graphing performance data and making enterprise-wide performance decisions. Visualizer uses powerful graphics libraries to draw graphs, charts, and specialized diagrams.

BMC AMI Capacity Database Web Services contains BMC AMI Capacity Management data that is processed and analyzed to provide a shared data repository that any user, application, or process can access.

BMC Performance Predictor for Mainframes, which resides on a Windows Console, enables you to study your baseline performance statistics and build models to predict and evaluate the effect of changes on your data center by using a visual Windows interface. BMC Performance Predictor for Mainframes allows you to model activity in your data center on the level of Service Class and Performance Group periods. You can also define and model SUITES, which are groups of jobs, started tasks, or TSO sessions.  If UIE has processed subsystem data from CICS , Db2, IMS, MQ and/or WAS, you can group subsystem transactions into applications and model your business applications on a more detailed level.

BMC AMI Capacity Reporting is an interactive graphing tool for statistical processing of historical data of your mainframe systems. The product processes and displays statistical data collected over an extended period of time. You can use the collected data to create performance analyses and graphs in a variety of formats.

You can use this product in either or both of the following ways:

  • Accessing your populated performance data in the Capacity Database to create ad hoc workflows and dashboards from scratch
  • Starting with one of the out-of-the-box workflows, shipped with the product, which contains preselected categories and performance metrics

BMC AMI Cost Management provides you with the ability to optimize the cost of IBM software products that are based on a sub-capacity Monthly License Charge (MLC) contract in your z/OS environment. The UIE component extracts software costing metrics from your RMF/SMF data and produces costing tables that are populated into the Capacity Database.

BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimizer for Mainframes (TSCO-MF) delivers key mainframe performance metrics to the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization solution. In doing so, it completes the enterprise-wide capability to proactively optimize IT resources across physical, virtual, and cloud environments, including the mainframe. The UIE component extracts IBM z/OS system and subsystem metrics from your RMF/SMF data and produces performance data tables that are populated into the Capacity Database. The TSCO-MF ETL process extracts performance metrics from the Capacity Database and loads the data into the TSCO-MF Data Warehouse.
