TrueSight Middleware and Transaction Monitor (TMTM) can notify you and other users when an event occurs. The console alert action can be configured to:
Display a message on the Alerts pane of the TMTM Monitor Console to write a message to a journal for later reference.
Display the topic path on the Alerts pane of the TMTM Monitor Console.
Display a message using different colors on the Alerts pane of the TMTM Monitor Console.
Play a sound to give an audible alert.
Write a message to the Alerts History using the Journal option.
A console alert stays in the alert pane until the trigger is no longer true. Selecting the check box acknowledges that you have seen the alert, but it does not disappear. If the same trigger evaluates as true repeatedly, only the time updates. For example, if a queue is full, you get a Queue Full alert. If the queue is still full the next time the trigger runs, the alert stays, but the time is updated. This feature keeps near-identical alerts from crowding out important new alerts.
Do not use the console alert action with transient topics or the delta operator. Use the Log to File action instead. There is no clearing of the transaction, so the console alert also does not get removed and remains in the Alert pane.
Note
If a condition resolves to true at the time you define an alert, it is not triggered. So if a queue has over 1000 messages in it when you create the alert, it does not warn you that there are more than 1000 messages until the message level drops below 1000 and goes up again.
Note
To increase the height of the Alerts pane while the upper edge of the pane is locked, check that the action toolbar is not attached to a vertical edge of the action pane. If it is, move it to the upper or lower edge of the action pane. This unlocks the height adjustment of the Alerts pane.
