Upgrade notes

The TrueSight Middleware and Transaction Monitor installation program supports direct upgrades from the two most recent versions of the product. If you are running earlier versions of the product, you must perform at least one interim upgrade before you can directly upgrade to the latest version of the product. For details, see Supported-upgrade-paths

You might encounter the following issues after the upgrade:

Former BMC Software branding appears

After upgrading to version 8.1, if you still see the blue icons and branding from the previous version, you will need to clear the Microsoft Windows icon cache.

This problem often fixes itself after a day or two, but the following steps will force the icon cache to be immediately rebuilt. Note that the last step will reboot the computer.

  1. ie4uinit.exe -ClearIconCache
  2. taskkill /IM explorer.exe /F
  3. DEL "%localappdata%\IconCache.db" /A
  4. DEL "%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer\iconcache*" /A
  5. shutdown /r /f /t 00

For additional information, see the Microsoft support site.

Active Directory ADS mode not supported

The 7.0 version of this product supported the Active Directory Service ADS (also known as legacy) mode of integration with Microsoft Active Directory. The ADS mode was deprecated beginning with the 8.0.x versions of the product (you were able to upgrade but not use it on a new installation). Beginning with this release, this mode is no longer supported.

Before you can update such an installation, you must first migrate it to a supported mode such as Active Directory Delegate mode where Active Directory credentials for user authentication and group membership is still used while allowing TMTM user and group authorization and configuration information to be stored in its internal database. Contact BMC Customer Support for assistance before proceeding with the update. The installer will exit if it detects an installation that uses ADS mode.

To determine if your installation uses ADS mode, examine the services.cfg file in the installation directory; in the App_Service section, look for the ldap_schema setting. If the value is set to ADS, then the installation is using ADS mode, and must be migrated before it can be updated.

Example:

[App_Service]
 ldap_schema=ADS
