Initiating a VTOC scan

The following table describes ways to initiate a VTOC scan.

Syntax for VSCAN command initiation

Location of VSCAN command usage

Syntax

System Command

MODIFY SVOSPAS name,SVOS VSCAN,SUF=xx,keywords

The variable SVOSPAS name is the product address space (PAS) name, and the variable xx is the suffix of the SMVSCFxx member that is to be used in the scan.

The variable keywords overrides filter keywords in the SMVSCFxx member. For a list of override keywords and an example of how to use them, see VSCAN-command-overriding-keywords.

Example:

MODIFY SVOSPASname,SVOS VSCAN,SUF=01,VOL=PRD2/

This command initiates a scan by using the SMVSCF01 PARMLIB member. VOL=PRD2/ overrides the volume setting that is specified in the SMVSCF01 PARMLIB member.

Use one of the following commands:

  • VSCANxx

The variable xx is the suffix of the SMVSCFxx member that is to be used in the scan.

  • VSCAN SUF=xx,keywords

The variable keywords overrides filter keywords in the SMVSCFxx member. For a list of override keywords and an example of how to use them, see VSCAN-command-overriding-keywords.

Alternatively, you can use the Scheduling Facility. For details, see Using-MainView-SRM-products.

When a VSCAN command is issued, a message appears in the SVOS job log showing the data set name that contains the scan output.

Warning

Notes

  • You can also initiate a VTOC scan batch job that automatically generates the VTOC_DSN and VTOC_VOL batch reports. For more information, see Batch-reporting.
  • Once initiated, the VSCAN command runs to completion. The only way to stop VSCAN is to initiate a shutdown of the entire SVOS address space.
