Capacity Provisioning Manager CPM

This section describes the Capacity Provisioning Manager (CPM), which monitors business-critical workloads that are running on z/OS systems.

Capacity Provisioning Manager (CPM), which is available on IBM z/OS 1.9 and later, monitors business-critical workloads that are running on IBM z/OS systems on IBM System z10 Enterprise Class and later servers.

The Capacity Provisioning Manager obtains IBM z/OS Workload Manager performance metrics from the IBM z/OS Resource Measurement Facility (RMF). If the performance and capacity data indicate that a workload is missing its goal due to lack of processor resources, the CPM can recommend appropriate actions. Additionally, if CPM has been suitably configured, it can automatically activate or deactivate temporary capacity as needed.

To provide support for CPM, MainView for z/OS and CMF MONITOR online provide the equivalent or similar data that is published by the RMF CIM provider on various resource classes.

Note

CPM support is optional. Only customers who are running CPM with CMF MONITOR version 5.8 or later installed require this support.
