Exception thresholds
The MainView for z/OS product currently provides two discrete functions to monitor exception thresholds:
Exception Monitor
When optimizing your system, your site undoubtedly regards some indicators as more important than others. The MainView for z/OS Exception Monitor lets your site set thresholds for the indicators that are deemed most important. The Exception Monitor watches those indicators continuously. If thresholds are exceeded, the Exception Monitor issues a warning message so that you can take steps to correct the problem before service is affected.
Your product administrator should select system indicators and set thresholds for them, as explained in Using MainView Threshold Management. When that task is done, see Using-the-Exception-Monitor.
MainView Alarm Management
MainView Alarm Management, like the Exception Monitor, lets your site set thresholds for important indicators. You can use MainView Alarm Management to trigger alarms based on thresholds, and then it sends the alarms to the alarm view, to MainView AutoOPERATOR (if it is executing on the same z/OS image), or to both. Several BMC-defined alarm definitions are provided as a starter kit to simplify your exception management.
