Using the velocity linux easy menu

The Velocity Linux Easy Menu, EZVVLYR, provides easy access to all Velocity data views.

You can access the Velocity Linux Easy Menu menu by typing in the menu name, EZVVLYR, or by hyperlinking from the Velocity Linux Menu option from the EZLNX and EZLNXV Easy Menus.

You can view Velocity Linux data by selecting the Velocity Software ESAMON viewer to monitor z/VM instead of the BMC z/VM Monitor Reader or the IBM Performance toolkit. When you select the Velocity Software ESAMON viewer, you do not have to install the BMC Data Server and BMC Data Collector (the mmldsrv and bgscollect programs) on each Linux machine.

In earlier releases, you were required to have at least one Linux system installed with the BMC Data Server before you could view any z/VM data. Now, you can view z/VM data and the Linux BMC Data Server does not have to be active. Using Velocity Linux data allows you to monitor Linux machines from the z/VM service point.

Note

You can still install the BMC Data Server on your Linux machines. The BMC Data Server can manage your Linux machines by allowing you to issue shell commands from within BMC AMI Ops.

If you do not install the BMC Data Server, you cannot issue shell commands from within BMC AMI Ops. You will also not be able to issue Linux action commands from within any view.
