Managing the Linux data server

A data server resides on each monitored Linux image. The data server sends data that is provided by the data collector to the MainView for Linux — Servers PAS through the RTServer.

To start the Linux data server

  1. Login to the Linux system as root.
  2. From the Linux system, enter the following command:
    mmldsrv start

    Note

The data server writes log messages to a the mmldsrv.log file in the /var/bmc/mml directory.

To stop the Linux data server

  1. Login to the Linux system as root.
  2. From the Linux system, enter the following command:
    mmldsrv stop

To service or upgrade the Linux data server

  1. Hyperlink on the Linux PTF Update action from the EZLNX Easy Menu panel.

    Note

You can specify multiple Linux targets by using wildcard characters such as the asterisk (*) and the question mark (?) in the Target Pattern input field.

  2. Complete the input fields and press PF3/END to submit the UPDATE command.

As an alternative, you can complete the following steps:

  1. Log on to Linux data server userid (for example, lnx0001).
  2. Verify configuration settings in /opt/bmc/mml/mmldinst script.
  3. Run mmldinst script with following command:
    /opt/bmc/mml/mmldinst -v

    Note

If you are running a shared Linux data server installation, shut down the secondary Linux data servers with the HLT line command from the SYLOVRZR view before running the UPDATE (UPD) line command for the primary Linux data server.

When the primary Linux data server has been updated, you can start up the secondary Linux servers with the STA line command. For more information about a shared Linux installation, see Sharing-an-installation-across-multiple-Linux-systems.

Creating or updating the Linux data server ini file

To create or update the /opt/bmc/mml/mmldsrv.ini file, enter the following command from the Linux instance that you want to point to the new RTServer:

mmldsrv edit

This command starts a script that prompts you for the RTServer host name and port number that you specified in step 2 of Adding a new PAS. After you enter the RTServer host name and port number, the ini file is updated automatically with this information.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
