Installing the data server on a Linux system


Whether you use customization after installation or manual customization to customize MainView for Linux - Servers, you must install the data server on all of the Linux systems that you want to manage. If you decide to use the Velocity Software monitoring product (either ESAMON or zMON) to collect your Linux monitor data, you can skip this section. However, if you do not install the BMC Linux data server, you will not be able to manage the Linux server by issuing Linux commands from within BMC AMI Ops.

Before you begin

You must FTP the data server installation script, mmldinst, to the Linux system where you want to install the data server (see Task 10—Creating a job to FTP the Linux data server installation files).
