Monitor region loops

Use the Region Loop Check views to detect IMS transactions that might be in a loop.

Note

This feature requires the MainView for IMS Management solution license.

Monitor region loops overview

The Region Loop views and the Loop Check Profile views enable you to monitor IMS regions for potential loops. With these views, you can:

  • Identify transactions that could be looping and causing problems with CPU usage and application availability
  • Define alarms to alert you about looping regions
  • Define alarms that take corrective actions when a looping region is detected

For more information, view the Quick Course "Alarm Solution Profiles for looping dependent regions".

Region Loop views

The Region Loop views provide you with the ability to monitor IMS dependent regions and identify possible looping transactions. These views enable you to see which regions have high CPU consumption and high DL/I, SQL, or I/O activity. High rates for these activities could indicate a loop. By analyzing the data in the Region Loop views, you can manually detect a loop before it becomes problematic.

Loop Check Profile views

Using the Loop Check Profile views, you can define alarms that detect loops and that can take actions to remedy loops when they are detected.

The alarms are based on the data collected by the Region Loop views. Any alerts messages and actions are generated based on profiles you define within the MainView for IMS online product. You do not have to setup complicated alarm definitions in the MainView Alarm Management component of MainView Infrastructure (MVI) to use these alarms. Instead, using simple-to-use dialog panels available in the Loop Check Profiles views, you can create an array of customized alarms that either work individually or in conjunction with each other. The alarms can be defined to:

  • Issue messages
  • Issue messages and take actions to either stop the loop or change the WLM service class to quiese the IMS region

 Access the region loop views

You can access the views by entering a view name on the COMMAND line, by entering VIEWS and then selecting the view from the VIEWS list, or by entering
VIEWS on the COMMAND line and then selecting a view from the list of system status views.

You can access the Alarm Solution Profile view (EZIALPRF) by selecting Solution Profiles from the options of the EZIADMIN view.
